Crawfish Cake and other baking adventures

The cake is a red velvet with a almond buttercream icing. I think everyone loved it.

Also, my sister and I made some Easter cookies

... a lot of Easter cookies...

This weekend we also tried a few new recipes.

First we tried the Devil's Food Cupcakes from Magnolia's Bakery book

Here is ours:

And finally... S and I finally tried to make macarons. I was a little skeptical from all of the things I have read but I think we had beginners luck. I used this recipe. I thought they tasted great. I can't wait to try some different flavors.

its crawfish time

Crawfish are now in season(ish).

My lovely friend, K, is turning 21 on Tuesday. So naturally we are going to eat crawfish. I made her a crawfish cake for the celebration. I'll post pictures once she has seen the cake. I want it to be a surprise. This may be my favorite cake yet.

A quarter saved is a quarter earned.

I have finished another quarter of college. Winter quarter is the hardest. While spring and fall quarters each last 3 months, winter quarter drags on through 4 months. Four endless months. Well now they are over, and I can look forward to spring.

Last weekend, I took a trip to Canton. This was the most lovely day. The weather was perfect (sunny and 60). I found everything I was looking for. I wanted to find a few globes to place on top of my bookshelf. My (very) small collection started with two globe bookends that my grandmother gave me. Here is a picture of my bookshelves with the new globes.

When I go to Canton Trade Days, I always have a list of hopeful finds. I love how there are items that cannot be found anywhere but Canton it seems. For instance, crocheted doilies. I have been wanting to complete this project but could not find vintage lace doilies anywhere. I went to Canton and found HUNDREDS. I purchased 4 or 5 for 50 cents each. Now that spring break is here, I can finally work on my to-do list of projects.

Birthdays and breaks

Fall break went by so quickly; however, it was wonderful. Two birthdays in two weeks. I'm glad I had the time off from school to prepare.

First came Stacey's on the 18th.

Here is the cake I made and the decorations.

And then Thanksgiving came and went along with black friday

The Dad's birthday was the 30th of November. I asked him what he would like his cake to be (and I told him to make it challenging), and he asked for his guitar.

Here is the guitar....

and the cake... Good thing Stacey and I teamed up for this one.

oh. and I made another owl quilt
